What year is my outboard?

I have an Evinrude 90 hp outboard (at least I think it's a 90) and I need to know what year it is. It would also help to have the year confirmed. The model # is 85493-B. I'm told that the last 2 numbers indicate the year. Is this correct? What is the best way to winterize this motor? Also, I need to find a replacement electric choke soleniod for it. It is a "push to choke" ignition. Any help would be xtremely appreciated. Thank you!

Re: What year is my outboard?

Welcome to iboats. That is infact a 1974 . The last 2 digit technique is only used on the years 1980 and newer. There is a "Winterizing " thread at the top of this page you should read. Me and my wife love the Cape.

Here is where I got my info.

Model 85493-B is a 1974 85hp Evinrude. The choke solenoid is part number 386664.
