What year is this 40hs Johnson

We just got this boat and dont know what year the motor is the model number is RKL25D and the ser NUMBER IS 2345041. Also could you please tell me how the switch should be wired? The motor turns right over but I have no spark, the guy we bought the boat from just wired it fast and I dont think the grounds are hooked up. What spark plugs should be in it? Gap? Is there a way to get it started without the electric start?
Any help would be great thanks

year is 1963, as for the switch, I'm not sure

do you have the wiring harness, and the box that mount on the transom.

Yes I have all the hook ups.

thanks guys for all your help, will keep you posted on how I make out. Can I run this motor not on the boat? If so how? It is in a drum of water.

in a drum of water is good, but make sure you have enough water in there to at least cover the water pump area of the leg. and if you see a lot of grayish looking oil in the water when you are done. don't worry its just unburnt fuel. good luck

Your plugs should be Champion J4C gapped at .030".
Points at .020".

Fuel mix is 24:1.

can anyone help me with this motor. I have the same year motor and i am new to boating..just need help. is it worth me trying to still use this motor? it starts up when i pull start but none of the electric swich boxed is hooked up. if i could get that diagram bigger that someone posted i could probably figure it out. my only problem is i can't get it to go in gear. any suggestions. does anyone have a manual. also what is the history of these motors..can and will the older motors run for ever? please help
