What year is this outboard?

Hi All<br />I have an old outboard made by Viking The model # is 3D13V made in Barrie Ontario Canada<br />I think it's a 3hp and may have been made by Westbend Also it's lime green in colour<br />Cheers Joe

I can't find anything specific for the 3D13V, hopefully someone will know.<br /><br />In a funny sort of way, Gale & westbend are related. Gale buchaneer have a 3hp model that is 3D13B. The same year Elvis released 'Heartbreak Hotel' - 1956.

Vikings back then were Gales sold by Eaton's department stores in Canada. 3D13V is indeed a '56 3hp. The suffix is just the outboard name (B)ucaneer, (V)iking, (A)tlas, etc.<br /><br />Gale was a division of OMC, which along with Johnson and Evinrude made outboards. So the Gale outboards are normally like older model Johnson or Evinrude outboards and use all the same parts.<br /><br />I think some of the earlier Gale 3hp engines were based off the single cylinder Evinrude Sportsman engines, while the later ones were based off the 2 cylinder Lightwin.
