What I an looking for is what years legs will fit ? Isn't it from 66 threw 78 ?

I got a 1969 125 hp, merc, inline 6 !!

and what models will fit ?? isn't it from a 90 to a 150 leg will fit !!

This recent thread will answer your question:

HTH.............ed

Thank you ED . just what I was looking for !!

In your post there you wrote [if you can find a nice stainless-shaft lower from a 4-cyl 850, 80hp, or 75hp, your 100 will like the 2.3:1 gears.] will that also work with the 125? that would be cool if it did, and I could find one !!

Is'nt the one on it now a 1.87 leg ??

and also what would that 2.3:1 do for the speed ?

Again thanks ED !!!!! John

Depends on how it's propped now. The diff between your gear ratio and a 2.3:1 would be about 4" of pitch. Most rigs end up being overpropped anyway so the change would help. Just like installing 4.56 gears in a hot-rod Chevy!

If you're already perfectly propped, you'd have to install a larger-pitched prop to make up for it.

What that ratio does do is give you a much wider range of props to try, you can usually get higher-performance props in the 20" -24" pitch that wouldn't necessarily work with your existing lower unit.

If you have a tach on your boat, it'd help to post your Wide Open Throttle (WOT) rpm with just you in the boat. Then we'd be better able to guess-timate what the change will be.

Cheers......ed

OHHH no I am way over proped now , I been asking a few question in the prop foeum!!

I am only getting 3700 rpms out of her now 43 mph. there is a bronze 18 pitch 3 blade on there now !! I was thinking i was going to have to drop to a 13 pitch to get the rpms up to the 4800 to 5300 she is rated for !!! I also checked all cylinders and they were all getting 123 to 127 psi !!! so thats great !!

I only got this motor a month ago !! got her cheap !! I can afford to put a few bucks into her !!and as long as the heads all good its worth it !! she moves my glastron sportster t166 tri-hull,

Ol so if i can find a 75 to a 90 4 cyl or from a 66 up on the reg in line 6's i should be good !!! Ohh from a 90 to a 150 hp right ?? as long as its not the Big Foot series ?

Any of the lower units mentioned in the linked thread would bolt up to your motor. You are seriously overpropped and a 2.3:1 lower unit would certainly help.

Your Glastron isn't exactly a hi-performance hull and it's to the 1250's credit that, even being madly overpropped and burdened with a "low-performance" prop, it's going fast as it is.

A modern, 17" or 15" pitch 3-blade aluminum prop should get you in the correct rpm range.

The 2.3:1 gear ratio means less propshaft turns for any given engine speed, compared to the 1.87:1 gearbox. Couple this to a lower-pitched, larger-diameter prop, and you'll run a lot more efficiently.

Check your local www.craigslist.org classifieds, you never know what bargain is lurking there in a parts motor. Lots of stuff on eBay too, but you'll likely pay a lot more.

HTH & let us know how it turns out.
