What Year Model is it?

I have what I beleive to be a 25HP Evinrude, probably late 70's or early 80's. It has a 25HP top cowling but it could be a different HP. The model number plate is missing from the transom mount but the number on the engine's nickle size silver plate is G2614099. I was told that this was the serial number. Is that the serial number and is there any way to determine year and HP from that. Thanks for any help you can give.

That is a Johnson serial number, built in either 1965 or 1966. Sounds like you may have a Frankenrude, made up of spare parts. A 1965 would be a model FD-19 (18hp). A 1966 would be a FD-20 (20hp) ---OR--- it may be something entirely different. Only God knows, and He hasn't given an opinion.
