1999 350 Mag, MPI MIE. Not an outdrive motor, it's for an inboard.

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

Thankyou Don,
next question will be, can I swap back to regular heads .Pretty sure the bolt pattern is standard for head bolts.

Not sure what you mean. It has regular heads on it. At least for that model engine.
The 8 bolt intake is what was used on that engine.

Need to put a 12 bolt manifold on. Can access a set of heads ,always thought SBC were SBC.

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

Long story, cust engine broke a crank. Mech took it apart and said it needed a new motor.
Cust finds a "running takeout" from a marina that replaced both motors in a twin under warranty. engine missing intake, starter, flywheel, accessories and pulleys, but this was from a running engine.Cust regains all his old motor parts minus block and heads.Delivers said takeout motor to me and notice his manifold wont work. If the heads on the motor will only work with a MPI manifold ,I need to change heads to use his original manifold and carb setup.

Nothing has changed on the bolt pattern or water & oil passsages. It should work with no problems what-so-ever.

I agree. While most people go the other way, I am fairly certain you can bolt Non-Vortec heads on in place of Vortec heads. And that's exactly what you are talking about doing. It'll be a "big" downgrade in power.

Ayuh,... Your Customer would be better off,+ Happier if he bought the intake to go with the Vortec heads, rather than stepping Backwards...

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it usually cheaper to buy 1 intake manifold with gaskets vs 2 cylinder heads with gaskets?

And i'll ask only because no one else has yet. Why was this motor taken out for warranty? Entire blocks are usually pulled for warranty because they either have little/no compression and it's deemed to be a piston, or it's has a bottem end knock.

Hate to see you get burned by putting tons of time into something that's going to knock like a front door by the time you get it all put together and installed.

Agreed, he should pop the $150 for the manifold. Sell current manifold on eBay.

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

Seems pretty pointless to remove the (better) Vortec heads rather than just buying the correct intake manifold.

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

I tryed doing this last year, did'nt work on the 12 bolt manifold the bolts go in on a angle and on the 8 bolt manifold the bolts go in straight up and down.

Ayuh,... I donno just What you were Trying,...
But,...There are 3 Different intake manifold bolt patterns for SBCs..
This quote describes the 1st,+ 3rd patterns...
The 2nd pattern has the 4 center bolts Vertical...

Re: what year, newer manifold bolt pattern

The heads I have are PRO-RT ,center or edge valve cover bolts, large valves.I suspect there some type of racing style head . And I have 2 manifolds available to fit them.
Unless the cust locates a regular set ,there the ones going on the motor.
