what year this evinrude 4 hp?

I inherited an evinrude 4hp. Only identification is this "C719371" shown just below the engine. Can anyone tell me how to figure out the year and model of this motor?

I think you might have to give the experts a little more to go on.

Are there any other numbers on the motor, maybe the mounting bracket perhaps?

The other thing that might help is a few photos, we all love them.

Thanks for the reply. I'll get some pics and post them. I checked and where you would expect a tag to be, there is nothing. there are a couple of numbers but they seem to be casting numbers for manufacturing.

I finally got some pics of the motor, but can't . The only numbers are on a plug under the engine (C7193716) and on the recoil housing (582388).

The numbers don't tell me anything that helps me, but that doesn't mean they wont be a clue for the others here.

I can tell you that they made this motor in 1982 and were still making them in 1986.

I found two from these years in the Internet, both with serial numbers on the transom mount. One serial plate was riveted on, the other was a sticker. It appears yours had a sticker and someone pulled it off.

If you look at the first picture in the link you provided, there are two small holes where the plate used to be on the transom mount.

I don't know how it is in the States now, but without that plate, we can't get the motor registered here.

They are too many stolen motors showing up on Ebay & Co, and the first thing they, the thieves, do is pull this plate off.

No plate, no registration in Germany, without the original bill of sale.

Yeah, that missing plate is definitely not making things easy. I have an idea who sold those motors in Timmins in the 80's...I'll be there next week and will take it in and see if they can help me out.
