What year was gold??

I have a lower case that is gold and need to know what year it is, I sort of kinda remember it being a '77 but not sure of that.

I don't think it is 60s, I bought a gold one off Ebay and it went right on my '81 and I had another gold one that I took the innerds out of and put in my original '81 case so I think ezmobee is right, I thought it was around 77-78.

I was going to sell it but he found another one on Ebay so i will throw it back in my parts stash.

I know for a fact the 1960 Johnson V4-75 had a gold lower on a white motor. (see link). There may be others that I am not aware of.

FR, I would never question your knowledge and don't doubt you a bit, I was just saying I don't think the one I have is that old, it is identical to the original '81 lower except it used thrust bearing instead of cone bearings.

Evinrude used 2 shades of gold a light(bronze tint) and medium the light from 1971-75 and the medium from 1976-1978. Gold was used on cowlings,midsections and gearcases. Johnson also used gold on the 60? engines. The OEM # for paint are 771252 (71-75) and 771249 (76-78)

Yeah, we don't even know what size motor we are talking about. Evinrude used a goldish color on their larger motors for years, athough I wouldn't call it gold.

Yeah that 69 color looks more green, but for my 69 115hp my paint guy found it as OMC color johnson 389 gold

The engine it fits on is an 81 Evinrude 50 which makes me think it is the 76-78 variety, I have the empty lower case I stole the gears out of and then I got a complete lower unit off of Ebay that is gold and it went right on my engine down to the shift rod being the same number of turns in.

This all started when another member was looking for a gear case for his engine and I offered mine but wasn't sure what year it was, he found another one on Ebay but it is good to know whay I have.

I was mostly making sure FR didn't think I was calling him an idiot or something.

It was 1973-1975 for one type,
and the 2nd was 1988-1990
