I am trying to find information about a motor I just picked up. It is a Johnson Model FD 178 Serial # 2374959 I believe it is a 25 HP. Need to know what year it is? It looks pretty old but is clean. Also need the mix ratio.
Thanks in advance
B

Ya I looked on the Johnson website and it didnt match anything there. I will look again but I took that right off the plate on the motor. I will double check and repost
Thanks
What was the Mix ratio for pre 1964 Motors? Any idea?
B

Re: What year?

24:1 87 octane gas to TCW-3 rated outboard oil.
See the Oil Mix FAQ in the FAQ forum (at the top of the list of forums).
I suspect you have a FD-17B there, which is a valid and used model number for 1963.
A 25hp cowling would fit it too. :)
Those were good motors, and made for many years in various forms 15-25hp.

Thanks Paul Thats exactly what it is. This is my first outboard motor. Is that ratio 1 pint TCW-3 to 6 gallons gas?

No, 1 quart (2 pints) for 6 gallons.

I had to check my American manual for that one. Not bad though coming from a metric talkin' bluenoser. :D
