Is there a way to determine what year my engine is for tune-up and parts? The Boat is a 1998 with a Mercruiser 4.3L. It is either a 1997 or 1998.

Thanks

Re: What year?

The engines of that era had the serial number on the plastic cover over the flame aresstor.
If that number is gone, there is a metal tag an the back of the engine block just above the starter.
EVERYTHING from manual selection to part numbers goes by Serial Number with Mercruiser.
Yours is one in that changeover year where it could be service manual 17 or 24.

Re: What year?

It would be considered a 98 model when looking up parts, and you should use Mercruiser service manual #25 for information.
Check the link below.
Merc Parts

and scroll down to "4.3LH (GEN +) (4 BBL.) GM 262 V-6 1998" and click it. The next page will have where your serial number range starts.
