Ive been under the impression the 115<br />johnson i have is a 1999<br />looking at the serial # today<br />i saw a date of manufacture 7/7/98<br />at what point in the year can it be considered @ Last years model ?<br />BOAT AND MOTOR WERE A LEFTOVER PACKAGE PRE RIGED (PURCHASED IN 2000)

Your 115 is indeed a 1999 model depicted by the EE in the model number.

Thanks for the come back..... capt<br />can you stand another question ?<br />i keep hearing references,reguarding<br />johnson outboards examples<br />looper ? seahorse ? ocean pro ?<br />ive thought it was specific to horsepowers of engine or is it <br />carbed/fitch related<br /><br />overall record for above mentioned<br />j115plee what kind of expectations<br />should i have ? or after 3 complete seasons it would have hapened by now<br />(failures)none yet

The term looper refers to "Loop chaged " which is a design that incorprorates a porting configuration that acts to scavenge exhaust gases making the combustion more efficient.Seahorse is a term that was used earlier by the Johnson division of OMC on several of their outboards that has no specific application to design.And as far as I understand "Ocean Pro" is a designation of a line of outboards that was introduced to appeal to salt water boaters that may have had a few more sacrificial zincs and more internal cooling system parts that were inhibitive of saly water corrosion.<br />If you have had 3+ years of trouble free operation with your 115,with a little yearly maintenance , your likely to experience several more.

AHEM......speaking of yearly maint..<br />looking the engine over this bright sunny sunday i noticed the two lower<br />plugs on either side were rusty<br />at the "grab nut" ? under the rubber<br />hood ok with white grease<br />question is this cosmedic and to be expected because it sits lower in the<br />housing ? i made a half harted atempt to remove one WHEW.... wont budge WHAT DO I USE <br />WD40 OR SOME PENITRATING OIL<br /><br />Im a novice at this stuff<br />your words of wisdom are very helpful<br /><br />I should add these are the original<br />plugs and the engine was runing strong when it was put up last november

Depending on when plugs were last changed ,you can expect a bit of surface rust .Probably be a good idea to install new ones if you have no record of when they were last changed.A spark-plug socket of the right size should do the job in removing unless someone got a bit too enthusiastic installing them.A bit of WD 40 wouldn't hurt.If you do decide to keep a bit of grease on the plug ends where the boot stabs on it's a good idea to use a dielectric type of grease that will not insulate metal to metal contact.
