sorry to put this in here i originally posted in the mercury forum part.. i have been trying all day to reply to it and post in the engine forums but it won't let me post anything in there.. i have a 40 hp merc. it's a 402 the serial number on the plate is 2301454 i can't find this anywhere and was told that 28 was the smallest first two numbers for a 402.. I'm guessing maybe this transom mount bracket is from another motor?.. I found 4588343 etched in a couple different places on differnt parts of the motor under the cover.. is it possible that this is the serial number? If so can anyone tell by that number what the yr may be? Again sorry for posting this here but it won't let me post anything in any of the engine forums or even reply to my original posting it says i don't have the rights to do it.. thank you for you help
