Whats a FULL service consist of ?

Hi have done a deal on my new to me boat .. as part of the deal i have insisted the Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha 1 engine ,has a FULL Service .

They seem to think this is expensive and wasnt happy but i insisted so what is involved in a full service ?

And what should i check to ensure they do it and not just say they have ?

no such thing as a full service.
kinda like how high is up.
what I would do is have the bellows changed possibly the lower shift cable,drive alignment and seawater pump.
then regular yearly maint items.
best bet is to have a competent mercruiser tech go over it BEFORE you buy it.

They are the Merc dealers ..
And i told them i want oil change spark plugs and any other items that a full service needs..

As rodbolt stated, there is no such thing as a "Full Service"
You need to tell them what you want. Many places call a full service oil change and gear lube change and done with it.
Decide what you want done and write it up for them, don't just assume they will do all that is needed.

Well thats weird , how am i meant to know ?

I would imagine all filters ,oils , spark plugs, pumps and everything greased etc.

So as a boat owner i tell them what to do

They should know and tell me surely.. still we will see what they do then ..

The owners manual or the service manual has a maintenance list in it. YOU have to determine what you want them to do.
This isn't like taking a car to a Jiffy Lube for an oil change and check the fluids, 10 minute quicky.
They don't know how old your impeller is, nor the bellows, or the ujoints, or the tuneup. You have to tell them when it's time.

Here is a typical maintenance schedule from a 99 service manual.

NOTE: This is called Scheduled Mainenance, not FULL SERVICE.
