What's a good carb cleaner for a outboard?

I have a 1990 Force 150 8X90D and had it in the water a couple of days ago. Boat had been sitting for about 6 years but had been fogged before storage. Boat idled fine, real sluggish and hesitant when opened up. Just figured it might need a tune up so I bought new plugs and wanted to know what to use on the carbs as a cleaner. Local boat mech stated not to use auto carb cleaner becaue it was too harsh on the delicate parts of a boat carb. Any help would be greatly welcomed. Also, I'm guessing that the little buzzer under the steering wheel should not be going off?<br />Thanks,<br />Jeff

Did you replace the impellor? I use automotive carb cleaners (Berryman Chemtool B 12)all the time, just remove any plastic or rubber parts(including gaskets)before cleaning the carbs.

If removing the carbs to clean them, use anything you like. If leaving them on the engine, the carb cleaner will enter the crank case and remove lubricating oil from the internals, remember the fuel also carries your lubricant in a 2 stroke.

Put SeaFoam Engine Tune in your gas tank. I use it in all my toys.........

Use OB engine de-carb. Follow the instructions on can.

I haven't replaced the impellor, this would be a good idea walker? I thank you for the replies seeing how I work on people and not machines I'm kinda ignorant at this, luckily I have a manual on the way. I'm just hoping to have it running great by Memorial Day. My two boys are counting down the days. Again thanx for the advice. With it being a used boat I have several other things to fix i.e. fuel and tach gauges not reading right, a little buzzer alarm that goes off after it has ran for a minute......again thanx.

that buzzer u hear could be the overheat alarm from what little i know. I am no motor head but that much i know.

Yes, the buzzer is what turned on my light switch about the impellor.
