whats a good free anti-spyware download out there?

I think it has been talked about before, but I am sure there are more and better free anti-spyware. <br />I am not too sure what spyware is...but I have a good imagination, but I am still not fully aware of spyware implications on my computer, but I am assuming it is not good. <br />Any help would be appreciated. <br />Thanks,<br />B.C.

I have had very good luck with the Microsoft Anti spyware (beta) direct from Microsoft and it's free.

I have always used the 2 that everyone is going to tell you about. I still have AdAware but killed off the other one, which I can't recall the name right now, but I can tell ya they still let some stuff through. I found Spyware Blaster and haven't had a problem in about 6 months. Its free and it works.

I use "spybot search and destroy" It seems to work quite well. first time I ran it, it found all kinds of crap on my system..

Yep. I've used it on two different computers where it removed things other spyware programs would not.

I've been wondering the same thing. There is an evil thing on wife's laptop, which is called "Aurora". Anyone ever hear of it? It creates craploads of pop-up windows while searching on the internet. I've used Xoftspy to try and get rid of it, but it never works. Aurora pop-ups are always there. I might try Microsoft anti spyware unless someone knows something better for this.

Download the Microsoft antispyware, it is active and will watch for more crap trying to install. Adaware SE and spybot search and destroy 1.4 are both pretty good scanners, neither is active though. <br />A free online virus/spyware scanner that works good is trendmicro. It's a good idea to use more than one because no program finds all of them. I use AdAware and Spybot.<br /><br />The other thing you should do is get rid of Internet Explorer. Use Mozilla Firefox. It is VASTLY superior to IE and it's free. I switched and the # of spyware/adware instances dropped by about 80% on my machine.

Bull****. IE has nothing to do with spyware. You get spyware by downloading and installing software that comes packed with it, or by answering yes to any number of sneaky "ok" messages that might pop up. IE is just as fast as Mozilla, just as spam/virus/spyware free as Mozilla, just as easy to use as Mozilla, and has a built in popup blocker like Mozilla.<br /><br />If you prefer Mozilla that's great, but I'm really getting tired of all the ridiculous IE bashing I read...

i use spybot it works good about the only thingI get anymore is tracking cookies and there for the most harmless .Most sites you or on give you cookies but I can say this for Iboats never put one on yet.

Adaware, spybot & spyware doctor.<br /><br />Spybot is resident active if you activate the 'teatimer' function. It will stop ANY unauthorised registry changes.<br /><br />IMO, spyware doctor scans the deepest out of the three. <br /><br />Trendmicro also have a very good online scaning tool, and it's free.

Wow,.....I guess I'm a little cautious............<br /><br />I'm running Whatever came/ comes with the Microsoft XP package, All Up to Date,.... Nortons,... Zone Alarm,... SpywareBlaster,...Spy-bot search & destroy,...Ad-AwareSE,... And, CCleaner....<br /><br />All but the Nortons is Free,...... and All seem to find Things, the others Don't................... <br /><br /><br />And,........ I'm running behind a Network Firewall.....

Ad-aware, Winpatrol, Zone Alarm and AVG. A good combination for me and all free with frequent updates available on-line. No problems in 9+ months.

I downloaded "Spyware doctor"<br />I think I should unistall it and install "spybot search and destroy". <br />Only good reviews so far

The UNregistered version is free, and it scans and deletes for free. The registered version does a lot more, but it costs.<br /><br />Did you register?
