no, I did not register, just downloaded it and let it scan my puter, then it said it wanted me to pay for it, to get rid of the spyware it found.

In some ways, spyware is the least of your worries with Windows and Internet Explorer..

You don't have enough time to explore all of the open holes in this OS to include Internet Explorer.

Here's just one link (there are thousands of such sites) Link

or here... Link or here... Link

On a lighter note, it's good that Black Viper's site is back up and flying. Black Viper

I've used most of the above listed at one time or another, as well as some others I actually paid for. I've found this Microsoft beta version to be absolutely the BEST of them all. Upon first installation, it found and removed about 60 to 80 items that Spybot and Adaware had completely missed. www.microsoft.com

Symantec: Mozilla browsers more vulnerable than IE
Published: September 19, 2005, 1:10 PM PDT
By Tom Espiner
Special to CNET News.com

Mozilla Web browsers are potentially more vulnerable to attack than Microsoft's Internet Explorer, according to a Symantec report.

But the report, released Monday, also found that hackers are still focusing their efforts on IE.

The open-source Mozilla Foundation browsers, such as the popular Firefox, have typically been seen as more secure than IE, which has suffered many security problems in the past. Mitchell Baker, president of the foundation, said earlier this year that its browsers were fundamentally more secure than IE. She also predicted that Mozilla Foundation browsers would not face as many problems as IE, even as their market share grows.

Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report Volume VIII contains data for the first six months of this year that may contradict this perception.

According to the report, 25 vendor-confirmed vulnerabilities were disclosed for the Mozilla browsers during the first half of 2005, "the most of any browser studied," the report's authors stated. Eighteen of these flaws were classified as high severity.

"During the same period, 13 vendor-confirmed vulnerabilities were disclosed for IE, eight of which were high severity," the report noted.

Link

And if you belive that, I've got some land you may be interested in...
All applications have limitations and bugs. The difference is that the vunerabilities get fixed with Mozilla very, very quickly.
Microsoft has been getting better posting fixes instead of living in denial about flaws in it's products. But just go over to secunia.com and have a look at the nature of the security holes in IE and Mozilla. Which have been fixed, and what attackers have been able to do with the bugs.

But please, I appologise for wandering off topic here.

That's okay, Paul. I am interested in which browser is better.
With my experience...I prefer Firefox, but to each their own.
All I want is to use it the "least attack by hackers and viruses" browser.
As for the spyware, I am going to unistall "Spyware Doctor" and install another one.
I just installed Search and destroy...it seems to work great.
I also downloaded "Opera" as my new browser. It is great too.
Thanks for all the help everyone. :)

I'm what they call an IT "Egg-spurt"....

I tried them all, Ad-aware, Spy-bot, neither caught a trojan I had running on my computer, some advertising thing (Because I have to do gov purchases at times).

Microsoft Anti-spyware caught this thing, and it has cool tools to reset deeply hidden browser settings from hijacked websites etc.

It's the best product on the market, for the money :D (FREE!)

Chris, I seem to have read somewhere that Opera no longer requires ads to be viewed with their free version. Let us know how it works out.

This is a pre-emptive apology for hijacking your thread, but...

ZmOz, I stand by my opinion that Firefox is superior, but everyone has their own opinion. You seem to have missed the word "/adware" after "spyware". After installing Firefox, the number items identified by Spybot and Ad-Aware decrease by 80% or so. Those items didn't get there by anything but my browser. They may have only been a form of non-harmful adware or tracking cookies, but they were there with IE none-the-less.

I use internet explorer for 2-8 hours every day, and have since about 1997. I have no virus software, no firewall, no spyware, no adware, and receive little spam. I've had 1 virus, that was about 8 years ago with windows 95. The occasional spyware I do get is a result of downloading some software that came with it, and is quickly removed with microsoft's free remover.

I repeat: Spyware/adware/viruses are a result of your own clicking. Watch where you click and you don't get it. They're just like STDs. ;)

As I understand, the M/$ product is only free until December. BTW, what you load now is Beta, not even RC or final product. There may be some bugs in it. They (M$) were going to begin charging for it this summer, but they extended the Beta until Dec.

Sorry, Vipzach but I couldn't help but comment on your quote. Yes there are a lot of dumb people out there, however you should change your spelling of there to they're. :D

Opera 8 doesn't have the advertising box in the top right corner...like previous versions.

Speaking of Opera. For some reason, my "scroll" part of my mouse does not work when I use Opera.
That is just totally weird.
Maybe I should make a new thread on this, because I do not know how to fix that. The scroll works fine on Mozilla and IE, but not Opera.
