Bought a new 25hp merc 2 stroke this spring. Took it out for a test on my new skiff and concluded it's too much motor for the boat; I should have bought a 15hp.

Question is, what's the best way to sell the Merc? It's virtually new, has only 3 hours on it. Do dealers take them in trade? How much discount should I sell it at. Motor is 25hp long shaft, electric and manual start, 2 stroke, has 2 gas tanks, used about 3 hours. Still has 3 years on the warranty.

well, any reputable place would take it back under the circumstance. especialy if your just looking to trade in and recoop a few bucks.

If it wasnt new Id offer to work a trade with you. I have a 15 long that isnt enough for my boat, works great, but just isnt enough hehehe

anyway you should be able to work this out with our dealer. and if not, be able to work a trade with someone else, especialy seing as how you want to downsize.

as a general rule, New things loose 20 ta 40% of there value the second you open the package, and especialy after you use it, even once. But that is a dealer standpoint, opinions and values vary.

good luck
