Re: What's a poppet valve?

Poppet valve is a spring loaded plunger (for lack of a better word) Its use is to slow down the water that travels from the waterpump, by doing this the water is able to warm up a bit before it gets to the hottest cyl.

TMD

Would no poppet valve cause #2 and #3 cyl to not operate?

Where can I locate this? For example on a 90 HP Mercury straight 6? :) What do I have to do to pull it and inspect it?

Thanks!

I'm not sure on this motor, mine is an 85 150 merc and it's located on the base of the powerhead on the drivers side. If you don't have a manual get one. Good luck.
CU

Checked the powerhead and manual. The manual mentions poppet valves and thermostats but doesnt say where to find them. Looked on the engine and didn't see anything... :(

MINE IS A V6 ENGINE AND HAS 2 POPPET VALVES , ONE ON THE BASE OF EACH ENGINE HEAD. IT CONTAINS A SPRING & VALVE WHICH CONTROL THE WATER FLOW...IF IT IS WROKEN, MAYBE THE ENGINE OVERHEAT...

REGARDS

CARLOS SCHEMEL

VENEZUELA
