What is the proper name of the black foam gasket that seals the out drive to the transom. MCI out drive, serial#2970347. This sits in a channel in the gimbal housing and seals around the key hole. I need to find a new one, but don't know the proper terminology for ordering.

Not sure what the gasket is called, but I used some sika flex (or similar.... can't remember exactly) when I bolted the transom assembly to my transom. Probably a real biatch to remove if needed, but it does not leak.

Gimbal housing to transom seal is how they list it on some. What year is this? I can't look it up by that serial number.

If your referring to just the black round gasket in the set below... I don't know it's name. I've never just bought just that one gasket, always in the set ..... called Bell housing gasket set

I thought it was just called a transom seal. A google search of mercruiser transom seal comes up with the part on multiple sites.

^^ That's what is screwing me up KT. I have the cork gasket shown on that drawing. When I took it apart, it uses the newer style foam rubber gasket. Sort of like a giant O ring. Perhaps 77 was a year where this changed? Or this is not the original gimbal housing to this boat.

I just compared that drawing to mine. Yes, that is it. Weird...every book I look at shows the cork gasket for my year. I think I have a newer gimbal housing and a very old outdrive, but it all bolts up and works. My out drive is the old style with the hook hole on top. It also uses the old larger trim cylinders. Thank you for the help KT. It is much appreciated.
