On a 1992 88hp Johnson special on the right upper side of the top carburetor is a value like unit.On top of it is a tire like valve stem with a red lever under it.Two rubber hoses come out of the bottom, one goes to the fuel strainer screen area and the other one to the lower carburetor I think. Whats it for and what position should the lever be in?

That tire looking valve is to use when you fog the engine for winter lay-up. You can do it there, or shoot the fogging oil directly into the carbs(Most people do).

Normal position is straight along the axis of the solenoid. Not off to the side.

It's the fuel primer. It's used instead of a choke. On cold start-up, when you engage the choke or primer button on the remote control, it injects a small amount of raw fuel in each carburetor.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Also, if your electrical choke/pump fails, I beleave turning the red handle 180 degrees engages the choke to get you running. Once started, turn it back to its normal position or you may flood out.

This is also where you put in your decarber spray [OMC Engine Tuner]. RUN position is full clockwise.
