Whats my jonboat worth? what should I ask for it?

I have a 1977 +/- Monarch 16' jon boat with a 1987 vro evinrude 40 hp side console I need to sell and cant figure on a asking price.<br />The trailer is no good -rust had its way. The motor runs like a dream and the boat is ugly as heck .The boat has soft wood in the stern but holds the 40 hp fine (rated for 50hp).<br />The boat has a plywood floor and a live well .This boat is very shallow (except in the stern).<br /><br />Id planned on replaceing the wood (not a big prodject)but found a larger boat and the wife says I gotta sell it .What a woman can do to break a mans heart -lol!<br /> Id hate to ask to much but Id hate to give it away ,Whats should I start the price at?I plan on selling it in my local paper. <br />PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT SELLING THIS BOAT ON IBOATS (PER RULES)SO DONT ASK TO BUY IT .

I think the value in your boat is in the outboard, primarily. No trailer is bad. Ugly boat is bad.<br /><br />My guess is that you'd do a lot better by selling the outboard separate from the boat, complete with controls. If the motor runs well, you'll have a quick sale, since there are tons of folks looking for a good-running 40 hp motor.<br /><br />If you can get it to the water to demo the motor to a prospective buyer, you can add a couple hundred dollars to the price.<br /><br />Once you sell the motor, then try to sell the boat as a separate item.<br /><br />A good motor on a bad boat will bring less than a good motor with no boat.

reddog, My guess is you would get more for just the motor then you would for the whole thing. I did a search on eBay and found a 1987 40hp evinrude that sold for over $1700.

One more cast if you get the chance please send me that auction # from ebay ill check it out . I paid $1,000 for whole package 4 years ago. IVE GOT ALOT OF FUN OUT OF IT !I had to get something bigger so I replaced it with a 1974 18' holiday Starcraft- got a sweet deal!<br />Thanks for the advice Cat and one more.<br />reddog
