My boat has a very basic layout on the dash i.e. steering wheel ,speedo, tach, bilge switch.
I'm looking to update it a bit to make it more pleasant on the eye and was wondering what else to include.I'm thinking water pressure guage, temp guage, voltmeter, even compass and all.

So I reckon by posting this I might get a few more ideas of what to add or not to add...

Soooo what's on your dash !!:p

fuel, speedo, tach, radio controls, sirius receiver, voltage gauge, and depthfinder/gps combo. Pleasing on the eye it may not be, I just needed to have all that stuck into a relatively small area, and still remain visible through the steering wheel.

Need to know if you have an outboard or an inboard to better answer this.

Trim, Volts, Temp, Tach, Oil Pres, about 12 switches for varius blowers, pumps and lighting, 2 sonars, 1 GPS, VHF Compass and usually my wallet, truck keys, cell phone and some empty beer cans. It's a Great Lakes fishing boat so it's built for purpose vs pretty.

Re: What's on your dash??

In additon to the engine, it depends on the boat and its use, as well as the size of the dash.

I have outboards, and believe in having as little as possible that can go wrong and cause greater problems.

On one, that's right old, all I have is the fuel guage that works, in its own way. The bilge pump is on a float. I need to fix the running lights but I can use the battery kind and know they always work. The tach is disconnected but I have a good ear. Don't need a speedometer as we don't have speed limits. I have a mounted compass, a holder for a hand-held VHF (charger base), and a fish/depth finder.

On another, a work boat basically, a holder for a hand-held VHF. We use battery running lights. It has an hour meter. That's it. Our home-made windshield sits on a 2x4, with a copper band that is just right for a can or two, flashlight, oyster knife, rubber gloves; there's an open box for shells, duck calls, bottle opener, sinkers, hooks, needle nose pliers and other gear that makes for quality outdoor living.

On my better boat, speedo, tach, trim guage (broken, never needed it), fuel guage. Surface mounted compass. In-dash mounted VHF and GPS/depth. Hour meter, lighted switches for the typical (bilge/lights/running/livewell/aux/aux) "lighter" plug. Pad for trim tabs. Cell phone rides in a suction cup holder inside the windshield. Just your basic center console set-up. That's fancy enough for me. KISS.

A 12 volt plug in for a spotlight or to run a portable GPS is nice to have.

ezmobee.. it's an outboard but also am thinking of mounting things like a depth finder/fish finder into the dash.

12 volt socket now i like that idea never even thought of it..

No real need for an hour meter is there ?

I like the hour meter to keep track of use and maintenance, like changing the water pump, fuel filter, etc.

That green hurts my ears! :D

My gauges are tach and speedometer, volts, oil pressure, water temp, and fuel. Switches are nav lights, blower, 2 bilge pumps (1 auto/ 1 manual), trim. I have a 12 volt outlet on each side of my dash; one of which is used for a bluetooth mike/speaker for my phone. Electronics include a VHF radio and a combination GPS/ depth finder/ chart plotter.

Re: What's on your dash??

My dash has the standard array but I added the laser beam switch, the rocker launcher 2-position rocker switch (heat-seeking or radar-guided) and the depth charge launch switch. They're in a line right next to the satellite interface for the weapons guidance system.

Leaves little room for the water pressure gauge I need to install.
