Im going to be getting rid of my 1986 tach with my boat restore and I see that there are many brands and prices out there. I also know that just cause its more expensive does not make it the most reliable or best out there.

So which brands are the best/good and which ones should I stay away from?

Re: Whats the best tach out there?

I am fond of Faria. On all my vintage boats, the ones that had the factory Faria's (Sea Ray) were the most accurate by far. And those were 25-30 year old gauges. My current Teleflex's are beginning to fail, so I am getting a new set of Faria.

I can't speak to the quality or longevity of other more modern/imported brands as I have never owned anything newer than a 1994. But I will say that if you plan on keeping the boat for a long time, just buy a 4 or 6 piece gauge package. You wind up getting the tach for free if you buy the 6 pack.

VeeThree is the current supplier to many OEM's. I would recommend the VeeThree gauges. VeeThree also makes the air cores for most gauge manufacturers.

I found Faria too high priced for the quality.

however they are all fairly cheaply made and none of them are that accurate.

Re: Whats the best tach out there?

I appreciate the info. All I need is a tach and was thinking about a volt gauge. This 16 ft doesn't all that much space unless I want to give up the radio which I was already thinking of doing so I can put my rocker switches there instead of on the side of the boat where they were in the first place. Makes it hard to see there.

What about Medallion gauges?
