What's the best way to clean white gunk off of outdrive

I have a 1991 OMC Sterndrive that was evidently stored in a slip or on a lift with the drive down in the water.

As a result, I have a layer of white gunk on the outdrive that is very difficult to remove.

What is the best way to clean this stuff off?​

A product called Zing available most anyplace that has anything to do with boats. Farm supply stores carry Acid Wash and Milkstone Remover that work too (either). Apply with a johnnymop and rinse thoroughly with water. Use in a well ventilated area, preferably not over concrete or grass. All of these are nasty acids, so mind the warning labels.
