My 1960 Merc 70 6 cylinder "Dockbuster" The battery was always flat (no charger). One of the cool things about these motors was that they had no shift, no neutral, no reverse, no nothin. (Supposedly, you could start the motor in the other direction.) <br /> One early spring day I had to pull start it out in frigid Lake Huron and it wouldn't start so I kept pushing the throttle up to about 3/4. When it did start...what fun!! The takeoff almost threw me over the stern so I grabbed the powerhead. The small 14 ft boat with me and all the weight in back meant I couldn'd get back to the throttle or steering wheel so I had to just steer with the powerhead. Once it speeded up it leveled out enought where I could get back up front but it wasn't easy bucking the big waves.<br /><br /> Just be glad your motor has neutral.
