Good day
I don't know if I was doing a proper search however I didn't find any topics with my specific question, I am new to looking at forums so it could be a user issue, (ME)
I have a couple old Mercury engines, one is a 1965 1000 the other is a 68 1000ss.
The 65 is on my boat, runs mint. I ran across this 68 1000ss it also seems to run pretty mint, although I haven't had the 68 on the boat or on the water yet, just in a tank. The 1964 Larson I have which I put the regular 100hp on rips pretty good at around 40mph. Other than the ignition from one engine to the other and the top cover along with some other subtle differences what makes the SS a SS verses the other 100 Hp engines. If I can get more top end out of the SS I'll swap. Is it worth it or not, both engines are pretty nice, good even compression on all 6, they both pop right off, idle great. Other than the SS just sounds cool, what else is there. One more thing, I have a 65 110hp, can I pull the carbs off that and put on either 100 hp engine, will it even help.

Funny, that's exactly what I was thinking, so thank you very much for that. The simple answers are sometime the hardest to find. Do you know if I can get anymore rpms verses the 65 that has the points. Also can i put the carbs from the 110 parts engine I have on to the 100 hp with out anything other than a basic cleaning or rebuild of the carbs. Unless I'm missing something they look identical, well at least the mounts and overall engineering of them. I'm guessing they will be jetted different.
