I got talking to the neighbour about stocks the other day, and he was talking about day trading?????
I have never bought stocks before, but the way it was put to me this is short term and you role them frequintly.

It sure sounds like gambling, but the odds are better on wall street than in Vegas.

(is this the speculation that drives up prices)

Best indicator of how it's going is when the day trader quits talking about it.

I like when folks say stuff like, "It's already a penny stock, so it can't go down much further" (yeah but you can still lose 100% of your "investment")

I'm still wishing I'd bought Ford Motor at $1 a couple years back.

Odds are still WAY better than Vegas, I agree 100%.

If you get into commodities, it can be much worse than Vegas because you can lose more than you bet. Just a little more risky than being a farmer.

At least with Vegas you know the odds.

If Wall Street really screws up, the taxpayer is expected to bail them out. I don't think that applies to Vegas.

Maybe not. Most vegas casino's are huge corporations. And it's unheard of for the government to bail out privately owned corporations, isn't it? Except for GM, Chrysler a few dozen times, etc...........

Day trading is completing the buy/sell cycle of stocks in a couple days or less (usually less and sometimes within hours). You are betting that stock will go up, or selling something you don't have to buy it when the stock goes down in the very short term. If it is not someone who follows trends, companies, reports, etc on a constant basis, it is a form of gambling.

Longer term trading should be done with forthought and study into all the different aspects that make a stock become the value that it is. It is not as risk oriented as Day Trading.

Both you are actually buying a part of the company, and that is what makes it different than Vegas. You are buying into the ownership of the company verses buying into a dream that you will hit it rich.
