I am repairing a 1978 stumpnocker 2. It has a break in the keel that had been patched/repaired and then rebroken and very poorly patched again. There is very little that is internal on these. The hull and the inner floor are very close and in the bilge it is the same fiberglass. It looks like it sank by taking on water up the keel and into the front fishing platform. Just wanting to know what's up there before continuing. I have drilled two holes and started the water draining down the floor inside, while working on some changes and minor wood repair. One of the two live wells was rotted, and I didn't like the storage, bench seat design. So after removing the old plywood, the bench seats and a few other changes, thing are moving right along. I am about up to the keel and the front issues. I would think it is crazy to have the keel open to another chamber like that. It's a boat that likely would be taken into skinny water and if cracking a keel will lead to sinking, well that's just silly. There is white Styrofoam type stuff up there, and not sure what else. It was made by a small company in Starke Fl called Griffis and sons, and made pretty cheap and quick.
Anyone know the design of these and what I am going to find up there?
I don't have a great pic of the front platform. Added just for laughfys a pic of the keel.
