Re: What's the loudest thing you've ever heard?

My hearing is so bad that most of the time the first words I say is "HUH" Whats that? Sorry I didn't hear you".

Being into music at a young age running sound for bands and DJing parties has taken its toll on my hearing. Guess those warnings about hearing loss on those stage speakers meant something afterall.

The loudest I have ever encountered was Ted Nugents concert back in the 70's. Cat Scratch Fever,,,,,,,ahhhh it was so GREAT!........ back then,,,,and now 30 years later,,,huh? whadyasay?

I was based in Germany in the mid-80s flying Tornado GR1s. Notoriously loud in afterburner, we were asked to minimise noise - especially at night.

During a NATO run exercise called Taceval or tactical evaluation, we were briefed to use 8 aircraft to attack a Bloodhound missile installation in the UK, time on target was 9pm.

We got back and were told by the exercise evaluation team that we'd missed and the Bloodhound site was still operational. So we had to go again. We replanned and came up with a new TOT of 3am. So off we went - highly p!ssed off with the eval-team for keeping us up all night.

Running 8 fighters for an pointless night attack on friendly territory... one million dollars.

Another 8 fighters for the re-attack... One million dollars.

8 of the noisiest aircraft in the world in full afterburner over the rolling hills and quiet villages of eastern-England at 3am... PRICELESS! (And f'in loud!!!)

You're right KRS... but that wouldn't have achieved the evaluation team's objective which was to try to stress out the squadron personnel and find the chinks in our armour. Fortunately for NATO and the world in general, by the late 80s the threat of the mighty Russian bear was gone and the west achieved its objective of winning the cold war. No more Tacevals! Let me tell you, the partying was long and LOUD! :D
