I have a Evinrude Zephyr model 4404 and a Ted Williams 7.5 HP 574-59932..Anyone able to provide values??? Neither has run in over at least five years....Thanks David

4404 is a 1946-48 5.4 hp. condition, running. would bring more maybe. these usually go to collectors, or restaurant decorators.

put it on E-Bay
and see what the highest bid is, you can set a reserve price to keep it from going for $5...what ever the highest bid is would be the approximate value. Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

You'd be lucky to get $5 on eBay. Once you factor in shipping ($100) the buyer would have more invested than the motor is probably worth. Zephyrs are not very sought after and they had a lot of mechanical issues. I'd like to add one to my collection, but I wouldn't pay more than $50-60.

The Ted Williams has less value. I've seen them go for under $50 running.

TD mentioned about restaurants or something like that buying them just for decoration..should be able to get shipping under $100..best to sell locally though

LOL It's okay. You are right. The Zephyrs were built by the trainloads and there are still a lot of them out there. Believe it or not, the one in my avitar was number 66 of the 4404 model. Intriquing design, and that is what got me interested in the old outboards.

What were the mechaincal issues anyway? I'm interested in finding out about this one.

The Ted Williams motor, is an Eska in diquise. It has a Tecumse powerhead.
Parts for the powerhead are best to be obtained at the local yocal lawn mower shop.

I have had a few, fixed them up to look and run like new. I tried to sell one for $50, not one email.

yea, believe it or not, the Zephyrs are still a "use it till it dies" motor, even though they are 60+ years old now. I seen one local to me for 50 bucks too. It actually still had the simplex starter on it, which is a rare find.

ha, there is one here for sale locally too. I have been seeing it for a few months now. started at $300, dropped to $250, now its at $70.

I think Peter Hunn said it best when he said the Zephyr suffered from "over-engineering". Here is a humourous opinion about them.

Yea, I completely restored two of them little boogers. The one in my avitar and a 1947 model. They are quite the engineering gem. When I first got mine, I was really marveled about the miniature horizontally apposed four cylinder that darned small. I swore that Evinrude had a good one up on Volkswagen and Subaru.

Yea, I was told that they should have. I've heard of horror stories where the old cork floats get soaked and they flood out. That is the biggest reason why a lot of them ended up at the bottom of the lake, or parked in the corner of a garage for years.

Shellac the floats and a lot of that issue goes away. The one I have in this avitar, ran like a scalded owl and was an easy starter, but then again, I fixed it up nice.
