Could be a 85 HP. I don't see anywhere that there was a 90 HP 3 cyl. made in '84-85 either chrysler or force.

thats exactly the conclusion im coming to, im looking at photos of a warehouse full of unused as new chryslers and the cowlings say 90hp, but they only have 3 ht leads and hence only 3 cyl, i think the dealer has some explaining to do!

thanks

Re: whats the weight of this engine?

yep, this site is saying the last 90hp made was 1977, doesnt say if 3 or 4 cyl though?

906 HA 90 1974
907 HA-HC 90 1974-77

now either the dealer has been ripped off or he is trying to rip me off because it seems that if chrysler were only making 90hp 3 cyl in 1974-77, then the engins he has bought cant be 1984/85!

#:-o

Re: whats the weight of this engine?

so as these must be 1974-77, would any of you pay £2000 for an unused one in as new condition still wrapped if you were in the market for this hp range as opposed to paying £2000 and buying something used and probably abused?

;-)

For a chrysler, No! Parts are scarce and reliability is an issue. I would look for a good used OMC or Mercury product, where parts and service are abundant.

Also, a motor that has sat for neary 30 years can have many things wrong with it. Things tend to rust, seals get brittle and deteriorate over time, among other things which can make them worse than an engine that has been run regularly and cared for properly. Something to think about!

yep, im no stranger to motor mechanics and what can be as detrimental as wear and tear is age on certain components, i would love to start stripping one down though to see how its stood the test of time being stored, but i doubt whether i would pay £2000 for the privilege!

;-)

Gentle men
The last year for the Chrysler three cycl. 90 was 1984. They produced five different models that year.

Re: whats the weight of this engine?

Thanks Alcan. Good to know there is more info out there! Wonder why these are not listed under Chrysler sites? Guess it must be because it's US Marine!! Also, does it specify if these are 3 or 4 cylinder engines? As for wonging, I would suggest trying to get ahold of one of those serial numbers to verify what they are selling.

Re: whats the weight of this engine?

Hi Rick
I don't Know why the sites lists are incomplete. As far as being incomplete. I don't think any manufacturer gives a single 100% complete list of all their products. I had to look up ignition test procedures for these models to verify the 3 cycl. configuration. The thing I find interesting is this guy has a warehouse full of new unsold motors. You would think that the storage cost alone would kill any profit. You never know what the auction man has to sell.

Re: whats the weight of this engine?

so despite all our efforts, we have to conclude these engines must be 1974-77, because their a 90hp, 3 cyl and they were not made after 1977!

(or does anyone know better?)

#:-o
