Hello all and season's greetings. Still familiarising myself with the ( 1990 Mercruiser 5.7 V8 ) engine in my boat and came across the attached. Looking through my Seloc owners manual didn't help so I was wondering if any of you wise sages could identify it. It looks like a coil or ignition amplifier of some sort to me. Thanks in advance.

That's down in the bilge under the motor? It's something added looking at the yellow crimped ring connector or the ring has been repaired/replaced.

If none of us has an answer, trace the large wire to see where it goes.

Thanks for the response. Yes, it's down on the port side, just hanging there. I will soon be rummaging around in more depth and will trace the wires then. Just noticed it by accident and wondered.............Thanks again.

Can you get down there and read the red lettering on the unit?

Maybe a high bilge water alarm or possibly a transducer of some sorts.

Is it sticking out the bottom of the boat?

Ok , it`s a capacitor to filter the AC signature coming from the alt or to eliminate the whine from the alt in the radio
