I have a 1993 Nitro 18' bassboat. Lately I have noticed a soft spot on the floor next to the console. If I peel up the carpet what do I expect to see? Fiberglass? Plywood? etc....

Generally appx 1/8 fiberglass on top of appx 1/2 to 3/4 inch ply

Some boats are going to zero wood.

Address which problem?

Peeling the carpet? Lots of scraping and then sanding the glue off.

Soft floor?

Expect to need to take the boat most of the way apart to replace all the wood including floor, stringers and transom. The floor getting soft is a symptom of deeper issues.

If it's ONLY the one spot I've heard of people cutting it out and putting a patch in, but you'll probably find the whole floor is soft. By the time you feel it under the fiberglass it has probably spread elsewhere. you could hope you're lucky and cut a hole the size of an inspection hatch and test the soft spot first.... just a thought.... or sell it "as is" if you don't have the time and money.

The last thing to rot is the floor. Read link 14 in the third sticky at the top of the forum

Are you the original owner? Do you KNOW how she's been Stored and maintained. Soft spots in the deck, usually but...Not Always, indicted issues below the deck too. IF She's been stored outside, uncovered for some time, then water will accumulate and could cause the deck to rot only in isolated spots. If she's been exposed to the elements a lot and water has gotten below the deck then you could be facing a total restoration. More investigation is warranted.

Carpet is used to hide a multitude of Sins

There is a lot of truth to that statement. But carpet is also so nice on your feet as well when out on the water just trolling along in the peace and quiet. JMHO
