i spose it might make the thread more interesting..<br /><br />would the chicks really go for the grady or being of a different mindset than us males would they be just as happy with the bayliner..???<br /><br />i dont think an english chick would know the difference.. they think u are a rich dude if u own any flash looking boat.. never mind the make.. he he<br /><br />and folks do pay over the odds for a brand name.. its the way of the modern world.. and lots of folks still do believe in the old adage "u get what u pay for".. and lots of clever salesmen know this.. getting what u pay for aint true any more cos in todays world u get what u get.. what u pay for it has little to do with its quality.. <br /><br />trog

Re: What's Up With All the Bayliner Bashing??

lol you can also compare a ford taurus to a Lincoln continental and say the are not in the same league.<br /><br />They use identical parts and just charge more for the lincoln parts.<br /><br />I like my bayliner. I'm boating where I otherwise wouldnt have been by wimperdink<br /><br /> Statement above is misleading. that's like saying. a bayliner and a grady use the same fiberglass for thier hull.<br /><br /> a ford taurus and lincoln cont. may share 10-20% engine patrs. including nuts and bolts. to implicate that they are the same is misleading.

All of you can suit yourself. I have seen it with my own eyes, many time more often that I wish. Bayliners roll when full of water while others just sink. I just agree with a previous post many before me. These are cheap entry level boats.

Stinky2, as the manager of the Bayliner Owners' Club Forums for the past 2 years, I can honestly say that this is the very first time I have heard of this "roll that Bayliners are famous for". Why not post the question over at BOC and see what you get?

Stinky2,<br /><br />I live in Ocean county, read all the local papers, and keep my boat in a small marina in Brick. I have never heard of any bayliner rolling over as you described. Can you give us a any websites with pictures or articles showing the boat that sank?<br /><br />John

They roll over when the owners start putting in the boat, heavy furniture, Mirrors, Real wood furniture, Carpet with pads, Crap under the beds, loads of canned food, bottled water.--------------------------- Hell, the boat is OK. It is the first time owners that need help. And NO BODY is going to help them.

Re: What's Up With All the Bayliner Bashing??

I can't agree or disagree with the bayliner stories. I personally don't care for a boat that requires frequent tweeking and updates. Loose screws, cheaper hardware, plastic where there could be aluminum or stainless steel, lower grades of stainless, fewer cleats. But to be honest, I could easily replace all those things, and I have had great times riding the rivers on old bayliners. I have not heard of the bayliner death roll or hull disingrating. I will say that I noticed the cheaper seating materials, the chalk buildup being greater than other boats of similiar vintage, and simple math will tell you that they can't build a bertram for what they charge. To get to a price point they sometimes underpower their boats. <br /><br />I saw an AMC gremlin driving down the road the other day. Ran fine. Boats are like people, treat them well, and they will treat you well. Never make the mistake that the best boaters drive the best boats. Do yourself and everyone who owns a bayliner a favor and be responsible and courtious and know the rules. It will go a long way to building the reputation of the brand.<br /><br />Stratocasters site is an excellent one and actually makes me want to buy a used boat over the new ones. The best advise, if it makes you happy it is the best boat in the world. Have fun and don't worry about what others think. <br /><br />Strato, if someone had a real problem with a cobalt I am sure they got a brand new boat, not just a repair. Top flight group.

Trog, chicks would flock to the Bayliners, they are nice looking boats. To most women, if it floats, is quiet, and looks good, they could give a rip what the name is on the manufaturers plate. When a woman sees a fishing boat, they see an ugly boat with sharp pointy things and motors all over the place (direct quote from the wife). When men see a fishing boat they see the perfect example of form and function.

Re: What's Up With All the Bayliner Bashing??

I own a 1988 Bayliner 1950 Capri with a Force 125 that I have had to put a bunch of work into but I knew that getting into it and because of those issue I got it for short money. I have heard all the bashing but Bayliners are what they are - decent, inexpensive boats designed for entry level families into the world of boating. And if you think that no one wants them - then check out Baylines selling on ebay - they are still getting pretty good money for them and NADA bookvalue is not too bad. I'm going to be putting mine up on ebay as soon as spring comes and I expect to get decent money for it. Of course its now been rebuilt (better than factory) but never the less - they are not the evil things many people make them out to be!!!

Reading this thread the term 'kudos' springs to mind...<br />'an expression of approval and commendation' <br /><br />or the term 'cachet'...<br />'an indication of approved or superior status'<br /><br />It's the same as buying a BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus etc, old or new.<br /><br />You feel good cause you look good driving it and it makes you look good when it's parked on your drive. It also a nice ride, and expensive to maintain.<br /><br />It's a bit like the trophy wife I suppose. Sorry I couldn't resist that.
