What's with all the adult tricycles?

Starting to see these things everywhere. Y'know, those three wheeled motorcycles (not atvs) from the 70's. Even saw a Goldwing with what appeared to be training wheels on it! It still had the two regular wheels but had a detachable rear section that turned it into a three wheeler (4 technically). Has some club popped up around here or are these everywhere?

you are going to see more and more gas saving vehicles, some that have been in moth balls, an there are some new 3 wheelers on the market now. i saw a 1 month old, yesterday when i was at the VA Clinic. he's getting 55 mpg. and riding a chick magnet.

I saw one of the new "Smart" cars in the parking lot of my local Best Buy store the other day. If you have ever seen the movie "DaVinci Code," its the little two seater that the lady detective drove in the beginning of the film.

I used to ride bikes years ago but am somewhat reluctant to do so again for safety reasons. I don't know how good this little car would be in accident but it has to be better than a bike so, who knows, there might just be a "cracker box car" in my future!

I see the Goldwing, Valkyrie, and Harley trike conversions around here a lot. I think they're popular with older folks that still want to ride but don't want to deal with the weight of a motorcycle. I haven't seen anything that looks detachable.

I've been riding my motorcycle lately too. The wife has never been interested in riding on mine with me, but now she is showing interest in having her own. She's looking at a small 250CC to start out on.

People who can't ride real bikes, ride those for the gas savings... When gas is cheap though, their owners can afford to hide them in shame. :D

Yep. riding my bike more ... and wife hates the uncomfortable seat ... doesn't want her own, but is starting to sound like I can get a new bike as long as the seat is comfortable for her! ;)

Funny you should mention that, coincidence is, I was just contemplating getting one recently, Because as I've gotten older 60+ with arthritic knees, and not getting any thinner, it seems the thing to do, if I want a bike. I remember 2 yrs ago with myself, & my wife on the bike, stopping, & starting, and low speed balance was an issue, and neither of us has lost weight since! Another thing I thought of, my wife has virtually taken over the jetski since I taught her how to drive it last yr, she's like a kid with a new toy :) Maybe I can convince her to like a bike, in the form of a trike as well?

I'm sure there's a lot of older guys, & older women who would be thinking the same way nowadays, with gas prices so high.

Next week is Bike Week up here in Laconia. The trikes will be well represented, as usual, with some "greybeards" even wearing their "colors". Too much!!:D

The Goldwing looked detachable, it may have required a lot of work though. and they were, uh, "well seasoned" riders.

The coolest one yet was the black trike this morning... all black, red pinstripes, heavily raked forks and a gas tank that looked like a coffin.:D

It actually had a covered wide back seat. Kinda like a rickshaw.

dIt just ticklres the heck out of me when people talk about getting things like this for "gas savings" when it will take about 15 years or more of gas savings to pay for them.

That may have been true a few years ago, but today... I could pay for a new vehicle with gas savings alone in less than 4 years. My only problem with that is that I don't think gas prices will stay so high even through to the end of the year.

Guess what Spots, it's only a matter of time before you start riding a 3 wheeled peddle-pusher, with a big girls basket on the front, and an orange flag at the back.....on the footpath.....: it is the step before you end up in an electic wheelchair mate.
I personally haven't priced them out yet, bit I know the day is fast-a-coming.
Cheers

So, What do you use for the other foot? :D

Sorry TD, just had to go there ;) Those things are so cool! Is it gas or electric? I bought an electric one from Big Lots for each of my 3 kids families, about 2yrs ago for Christmas for the grandkids to share. I set them up, charged them, and tested them myself, I was surprised it was rated to handle my weight? I also got them each a modern plastic version of a "flexible flyer" (steerable) sled, never saw something like that before? I found them at ACE hardware, (steerable, I had to have it), when they came to visit, the roads were clear and, we had snow in the fields, everyone was having a ball taking turns riding each of these!

Sorry, I had to share, it was one of the Best days of my life!

That thing sounds like a Blast TD! It's a shame I live in the hills, if I was still on L.I. where it's flat I'd hafta have one! ;) In fact, the hills, plus the overpopulation of deer, and bear, is One of the reasons I originally sold my bike last yr (an 86 Honda Shadow V-twin 1100cc)
