Pictures would be good. The water temp switch is located at the starboard/front of the intake manifold, and the oil pressure switch is located just forward of the oil filter on the port/underside of the engine. Both can be identified by the single brown w/ black stripe wire connected to them with a slide off connector.

Re: What's Wrong?

Why would I need to find out about the drive? I honestly don't believe the drive has anything to do with it as the motor act the same regardless of if I have it in forward gear, or push in the neutral switch and throttle it up. It happens both in and out of the water.

You seem to want an awful lot of information without the desire to even answer a few simple questions, like what the FULL model number and the type drive is so it would be easy for us to help find a cause to your problem.
You may not understand why the questions were ask, but that doesn't mean the questions aren't necessary.

All I can say is that it is not a King Cobra. Other than that I will have to go to the Marina and pull the boat out of it's dry stack to get the other info. Unfortunatly I do not have the boat at my residence. I will go out today and get the model number off the motor, and get some pictures.

Okay the model # is 988105, taken off the sticker on the starboard side valve cover. The outdrive is an OMC Cobra Outdrive. I'll try to add some picures as well.

Re: What's Wrong?

That # sounds like the drive model but I can't match it up to the 5.8. In 1993 the 5.0 EFI went up to 988104 but the 5.8's EFI were 987683 and w/KC drive 987351 and in 1994 (the yr the joint venture started with Volvo) the model #'s went to 7 digits starting 386xxxx. Really need the model of the engine to help. If it's a 1993 engine it should start with a 58 and end with JVB or JVN. If a 94 it should end with MDA.

Re: What's Wrong?

Sorry Bob, other than the serial #, that 988105 was the only other number on the sticker located on the valve cover. However, after reading your and Daves' posts here on my issue I went out to the boat yesterday and did determine it to be the Oil Pressure sensor. I also called out another more experienced mechanic who verified it, ordered the part and will be back on Friday to install it and hook up to pull any codes that might be in the computer. In the mean time he left the sensor disconnected so that the boat will run if I want to take it out before he gets the sensor in.

So thanks to everyone for their feedback, and help on this issue. Too bad my first boat mechanic didn't have the brains to come here if he couldn't figure the problem out himself.

Yeehaw, and found me a mechanic who actually knows port from starboard. Now all I have to do is get the old one to take back the fuel pump he sold me.:)
