Re: Wheelbarrow Tire

Slime is good stuff ;)

Go ahead people flame me........ I have used starter fluid on atv tires and many stubborn small tires. I had used the "grease" method but it was sloppy.......... and what the heck..... I have been working explosives for 35 years so the POP does not even phase me......... do it without warning people and the POP may make them POOP

All else fails take it to a tire store.

Using starter fluid on the small tire is one thing but this is not for anyone who does not understand very well the mechanics of what he is doing. Some people think they can do anything an experienced mechanic can do on their first attempt and "learn the hard way"

Re: Wheelbarrow Tire

Wheelbarrow tires are always a problem even with slime they will go flat, and a new one is almost as much as a new wheelbarrow. Go to your local tire shop and have them fill it with rubber compund designed for forlift tires. Makes a hard rubber tire and works great. Best $15 bucks I ever spent.

Oh yeah as dumb as it may sound to some the ether works great, although I wouldn't see the need on a little wheelbarrow tire. But on a tractor tire there is often no other way. And it is alot safer than twisting a strap or chain around a tire with a bar. Watch your head if that ever comes loose.

Re: Wheelbarrow Tire

I put a generic solid tire on my wheel barrow. It works fine for moderate to light duty work.
The fluid trick, we tried it once on a small car tire. It didn't work. I didn't try it again because I figured it was more suited to larger tires.
Has anyone had to change a tire that was slimed? I've heard it's quite a mess.

Re: Wheelbarrow Tire

That has been an accepted practice on large truck and rv tires for 50+ years. :)

I beg to differ

http://www.tireindustry.org/pdf/osha_Demount-Mount.pdf

"Do not use starting fluid, ether, gasoline or other
explosive material to lubricate, seal or seat the
beads of a tubeless tire. This practice can cause
the explosive separation of the tire/wheel during
servicing or during highway use, resulting in you or
others being hurt or killed."
Safe? no, common practice? yes, among "old timers".

I first saw this done over 30 yrs. ago as a kid busting
tires in one of those "old fashioned" service stations.
Just about peed my pants and thought it was the
craziest thing I'd ever seen but it does work.

Doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea though.
