When did Evinrude make 25 HPs with props with rubber hubs?

I have owned a 75 Evinrude 15 HP for about 10 years. The prop has a rubber hub. The river I use it on eats props for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And snacks. I have used the same prop for 8 years. It pushes my boat okay, but I've always wondered what a 25 HP would do. Well, I bought a 71 25 HP, and it is freaking amazing! But...the motor has a shear pin, and in the course of 2 days, I replaced 4 of them. So, what I want to know is when did Evinrude start making 25 HPs with rubber hubs instead of the pin drives? Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

Most motors from the 60's and newer from OMC had rubber hubs, and I'll bet your's does as well, just not obvious. The pins you're shearing are drive pins, not shear pins and are usually SS, rather than soft brass. You need to do better staying off the bottom!

Sounds like somewhere between '71 and '75 OMC went to non-drive pin props. It likely depended on the HP of the motor, as to when it switched over

I can say definitively that the prop for the 25 is vastly different than that 15, and where the 15 has rubber, the 25 has none. Staying off the bottom in this river is almost an impossibility. I was blown away by just how easily the drive pins 'sploded. "Tink." New pin. Thing is, whatever the '75 15 hp prop has got going for it is what I want in a 25. I ordered some OEM pins, but really want the system I have on the 15. I bumped plenty of rocks a lot harder than I did this weekend over the last 8 years, and it is still going strong.

You might want to consider one of these or make your own:

There are a bunch of other similar (and some different) devices available.

Your 25 does indeed have a rubber hub - it's just hidden, unlike the 15. In any case, you can opt for a stronger pin. I've even gone so far as using aircraft rivets...
