When do you pull your boat out?

It was a sad day at my cottage yesterday, as we pulled our 2006 Four Winns 180 out of the water for the season. It's tough to own a boat here in Ontario, because the boating season is only 2 - 3 months long.

When do you pull your boat out? It must be nice to boat in Florida with 8 months of boating! :D

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I plan on boating into the second or third week of October here in east central Minnesota, then it's off to the dealer to get it winterized, and then to a storage facility about 10 minutes away.

I think they boat 12 months a year in Florida, or at least in south Florida anyway. I recall watching the boat parade along Gulf Shore Blvd in the Park Shore development of Naples during Xmas many times.

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I have a Four Winns Horizon 190. I plan to use it for two more weeks starting the 15th of September then pull it the 26th and have it winterized and put it into storage at our fairgrounds barn for the winter. Yea it is a sad time but a necessary evil. I have ran it the first two weeks of October before but was nervous all the two weeks because of the risk of freezing at night. Even with the boat in the water. Besides there really aren't that many days it's warm enough to enjoy the boat here in Northern Michigan. Temps have already been into the low 30's up here. Just look forward to next year and another full season of boating. :D

Plan on continuing to regularly use it for wakeboarding until the 1st or second Week in October. Then I'll be pulling it out, and draining the block. Planning on installing fuel injection, and another couple of upgrades over the late fall, so it'll probably be launched a few more times before it gets fully winterized, and put away for good for the season. It probably won't come back out until mid-April... :(

I'll put the boat in 12 months out of the year here in Georgia... and I ride the Harley most nights to work and back. May get a little cold, but nothing like when I was growing up in Wisconsin! One of the reasons I live in the South... that and the fact my wife is from Texas and anything below 73F is "FREEZING" to her...

2-3 months? Huh?

Am I missing something here? I live in Ontario and I plan on leaving my boat in till November when the fishing season ends.... if it's cold I'll wear a sweater and gloves ;)

In the spring I will put it in problaby in mid April... thats around 6-7 months.

It changes every year here in SC but Jan and Feb are our coldest months. I won't be swimming but I plan to boat at least a little until X-mas and then again in March.

Water warms up mid April - early May.

Boat is usually put in the water around mid-May and usually comes out Thanksgiving week-end or a bit sooner? Usually our lake (Crowe in Marmora Ont.) doesn't get warm enough for water sports until June/July but it gets full use from then to labour day week-end in Sept...........Irv964

I plan on boating until the end of the month and then its time to start working on it. If its too cold to get in the water, then its too cold for me to go boating.

still seems early to be pulling the boat out even in Gravenhurst? I remember being up there near Algonquin for Thanksgiving and we had great weather for boating.
You're not looking at the onset of winter/snow 'till late November-ish...correct?
I'd milk it for everything its worth. Ontario has one seriously beautiful fall with all those maples changing colours. What better than to see it from the water.
My two bits.:)

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I boat from the beginning of March to New Years. Most years I could go 12 months but usally use January and February to catch up on repairs to the boat and tackle.

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I usually go six months,,,April 15th to Oct 15th (dock rental period). However I've found that when I wait till the last day on my rented slip, it is usually too cold to pressure wash. So lately the last few years, I pull out at the end of September then winterize it........SS

Florida has 12 months of boating.
I'm on the Chesapeake and can squeeze 8 months out of the season.
I have been out in every weather condition, cold is not fun, but I've done it.

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I never, never, never pull her for the season....last time i did, and stored for jan,feb,march....it angered the Boating Gods so much, it developed over 3K worth of small misc. problems,so now even a bottom re-paint i do in 1 day,and even still preform a ritual of some sort to appease the God's.

PS: Usually involves Rum......Gods like Rum.

Well, its not that bad to pull out the boat because the 'winterizing" thing, you can take that time to fix up some thing in the boat with plenty of time. Anyway I have to pull oput the boat always since I have to trailer it but you guys have the lake @ your backyard and that is one of the points I like of the "CONTINENTAL USA"
