Re: When do you pull your boat out?

I'm a 'northern boater" on my lake in northern Ontario I like to put our boat in at the cottage before the black flies get there, so early May I crank my "drawbridge "dock down and put the boat in. As for bringing it out it depends on the weather and what we are doing. My boat is way down the line after Bikes, Cars and Sleds. So while our cottage is a year round place the boat is just a part of the seasons. We take it out .....and the dock as weather rules. But as one seasons moves on the next brings its fun. I can run my off road bikes year round espically if I ice race. the sleds are good for about three months and my Tiger I can drive for for seven or so months. The boat and the sleds are about the same time line. The bikes and the car are longer enjoyment. Still I like winter NO BUGS AND NO GRASS TO CUT AND NO MUD....plus when water is solid its easy to go way faster......600cc sled 100mph....and no bugs

In Minnesota, I will winterize in early October. Only had the boat a month but I will be onto the snowmobiles soon. I love having 4 seasons and the toys that go along with them. At least on the sleds, I never am itchy for more top end/acceleration or a discussion of theoretical top speed. 105mph on the lake three inches from the ground is fast enough.

Hey there Nelson, just to let you know this Fla. cracker and his lovely Canadian bride are looking forward tothat second Monday in October to give us a head start on the holidays. :p Since we have been married for the past five years I have gotten a taste of the Canadian Thanksgiving, and as a man who loves his turkey, I don't turn down an early holiday!

Back to the original post, she is a good boaters wife, and really enjoys the all year boating we get to do here on the Left coast of Florida.

As "the Chief" mentions, we get some really good fishing as well. Lots of the bigger fish comein a little closer to keep us from heading out too far as well.

Most of her friends and relatives enjoy their winter retreats with us down here as well. All great people and very gracious as well. :)

That's the only blessing for the 2nd Mon in Oct is the turkey. Big fan of it myself triumphrick. Sadly I just found out the Marina where my boat is is pulling the docks starting Sept 29th so I'll be without boat or turkey for 2 weeks :(

Maybe I should just head to FL?:p

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

Northwestern wisconsin, I pull out mid october. After that the weather is just too crappy. There can be some nice days, but the chances that I will be at the cabin at the time to use it is not likely. Its usually rainy and gross when I pull it out. At least that is the way it has been for the last three or four years.

I used to have an I/O and would sweat the first two weeks of October as we would have nights that would be in the twenties overnight. With the outboard I am not concerned about that..

Re: When do you pull your boat out?

It was a crappy summer in Ontario-way too much rain, t storms threat chased us off water a few times.

My boats in garage, hope to get out 1-2 more times before winterizing it.

Ay, you think you had it bad, try IOWA or Wisconsin. people are still re-building, most did not have a summer this year.

I Just pulled my boats out last weekend, Last year we had flooding in the fall, so wife will not allow the boats in till into June ( was a good thing this year! my boats were not caught in the floods this time! - Its sad watching nice boats going through dams!) and wants it out after labor day.

When I was growing up, we had a place on long lake, Haliburton, Ontario. We Put it in in May-24 weekend, and out at turkey time. ( in Canada, Turkey time comes when there are still leaves on the trees) I do recall ( and have pics,) of putting my boat in at Honey harbor in a freak snow storm in May) , OK I miss honey harbor, Buckhorn and the trent canal ( I at least have pics of the locks on my desktop at work) and real lakes (with clear water)!

OK, Im sad now.

Big lake here doesn't freeze and I have plans to go after lake trout this winter.

Gotta get a drop curtain made and a secure place for the Black Cat heater and I'll be good to go out all year.

Winterizing means putting the leg back down when I get home.

I have snowmobiled on long lake in Haliburton quite a few times, it is beautiful country up there and I don't blame you for being sad now!! Why the move to Iowa?..........Irv964
