how important is this lip .....i left about 3 inches all around so i could bevel it out and work the new floor into it ,,,,,but the more i think about it the harder it will be to incorporate it into the design rather than just start fresh and level ,and do a good joint to the hull......also what is a good tool to make the lip beveled at say a 45 degree angle and be equal distance from the hull ,,,i think my router wouldnt get in close enough ,,,what about one of those roto zips....

A trim router (laminate trimmer) would get you in closer than a standard router.

I'd also skip any kind of "Lip"......<br />And bond it directly to the Hull..........<br /><br />As far as preping the Edge,.......<br />A 4" Grinder will get it "Close Enough" for Your purposes.........<br />After All,...... You Need a Gap for the Thickened Resin you're going to "Bed" the new floor Into..........

I would take out as much of the old junk as you can...... Just fiberglass the new wood to the hull...

Lose the lip, there is no advantage to it at all. Some leave it, and lay the new wood on top, but that raises the floor level. No matter what, you still have a secondary bond, whether it is to the lip or to the hull itself so you may as well just do it so it looks good.

What lip? I took it all down the the hull! No really need except as a guide if you need it.

I left a 1.5" lip all the way around. this way, my new floor will be level.
I am also using a 3/4" sheet of ply, so the floor will be raised up a bit.

lip or no lip, it's up to you. just make sure you coat any wood with epoxy or at minimum polyester resin , to waterproof it; this isnt a job you want to do twice, on the same boat.​
