Hey akk,
I'm trying to set the timing on my 1992 Merc 60HP. The manual recommends using a dial indicator to find TDC, then backing off to get to 0.451" BTDC. I'd like to find a dial indicator with a spark plug thread adapter so I don't have to 'rig' a holder on a normal style indicator. I haven't been able to find the tool I'm looking for at Grainger, MSC, McMaster-Carr, or Snap-On. Does anyone have an idea of where I can find this tool? (There is a picture of said monster in manual, too!).
Thanks, Rich

Check some motorcycle shops. I've got a real old one and that's where it came from.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

I got mine from a machinist supply in Kenilworth, NJ. They had a bunch of different models in stock and had a spark plug adapter as well. This was over 10 yrs ago, but there are still probably more than one store there, since there are a number of small machine shops located there.

Go to this web site and type in dial indicator. You'll find one for about $10. This is not top of the line but it is accurate and will be
fine for what you are going to do.

www.harborfreight.com/

I happen to think, I don't know how much you know about these indicators but you'll have to have a way to hold it so check out the magnetic base on same web site. Hope this helps.

xp150, no magnetic base needed for this use. Dial indicator w/ sparkpulg adapter screws into sparkplug hole and measuring end of indicator rides on piston top.
