where can i get a cone clutch for a king cobra?

the problem im having with my 261 liberator is that one of the drive wont go into froward, it goes into reverse just fine, i took it to the shop and they think it might be the clutch wich makes sense i guess. im told they are very expensive but i cant even find them anywhere. can someone steer me in the right direction?

0915130 CLUTCH CONE still avail new from BRP- i.e. any Evinrude dealer worldwide
that's for a 1991 7.4L
without knowing year, or model number, hard to say if they'll have yours

What year model are your engines and drives?

The 261 came with "D0Gs" mostly.

You may have one of the later models with the Cone clutches.


Do your drives look like the following picture?

i think its a later one because i thought it would have dogs too but the shop said it was a cone clutch. the boat ia a 90 four winns liberator with twin 5.7's
p.s do you think the clutch is more than likely the culprit? the shop already check to see if the linkage needed adjusting and the said it was fine

Post a picture of your drive. I really doubt you have a cone clutch with a 5.7L motor.

thats what everyone says, but the mechanic says its the higher performance 350's that had the cone clutch ill have to wail till monday to take pics since its still at the shop

Just because the boat is a '90 doesn't mean you have 1990 engines/drives.
They may be 89 models.

If they are 89 models. They're "Dogs"

Find the model numbers of the engine/drives.

these are 89 models:

350AMLMED
350APRMED
574AMLMED
574APRMED

If they're 90 models:


574AMLPWS
574APEPWS
574APRPWS
574BPEPWS


2 of the 90's models are Dogs and 2 are Cones.

Go to http://epc.brp.com to determine.
