Where can I get a good rod holder that fits on a rail?

I want some rod holders for deep sea poles. The good ones I see are designed to fit into a hole in your fiberglass. I would love to use these on my boat, but unfortunately, I have a rail around the back and sides and they would be impractical to use. Does anyone know of a good pole holder than I can safely use on my boats railing? I want something I can confidently put an 80 LB test lined pole into.

I thought about removing the railing, but this would also be impractical.

I have not seen a rail or a rod holder that will hold up when using #80 tackle.

agreed, I've seen them spin on the railings, hate to see $500 or so go over the side. They do have the three way rocket launchers that fit in the rod holders on the cap, maybe that would work.

I've worked on charter boats that have stainless rod holders welded to the railing. You could try that.

Tolling for big tunas Off San Diego, our charter boat used the rail as a trolling station...We had a couple feet of line with brass or stainless clips.

You wrap/loop the line around the rail, then clip the 2 clips to the eyes on the reel...lets the rod lay straight out behind the boat...

Worker very well in that case...If I had some stainless rails on my boat I would rig em the same...

There is an answer in the other post you made in saltwater fishing, but you didn't mention 80lb test tackle. If your drags are silky smooth you might get away with it but like mentioned you might wind up with a very expensive rod and reel over the side.

I would at least have a safety lanyard attached to the rod & reel.

Thanks for the info, I have better information on what I am thinking about in my other post. I forgot about this one, I posted it back in May right after I got my boat. :D
