The pink or blue is actually a touch more resistant then the white stuff. You could lay plastic over it but do not seal it up or it will hold moisture.

Repeated for emphasis. Don't use the white! It sucks up water like a sponge.

...maybe I'm using the term bilge incorectly...

My thought of the bilge area would be where your hull drain plug is located. Behind your last seat

OK, I can see that...I've seen big boats where the bilge area runs the whole length of the boat with decking or in some cases metal grate(navy vessels) over it. This boat has a nice deep transom channel that does the same job....that's why I was confused I guess....thanks. I do want to raise the foam up a bit on pvc pipe or angle aluminum to keep it out of the water that backflows easily out of the bilge area through the channels on the bottom of the hull.....it rains alot here.

I can't see anything wrong with a couple of pieces of 1 1/2" pvc pipes cut and fitted to lay on the ribs so water can flow under the foam and not trap debris. I will also recomend the blue foam cut into rectangles to fit under your seats the white stuff is garbage.

You buy FOAM in 4' X 8' sheets and cut to fit. some time buying 3-4 sheets till you get a tight fit Buy at least the 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch thick stuff it is not always pink you can still get white just have to ask for it .
Go to the construction desk at Lowes or Menards, Home depot and tell them what your looking for. most will know what works best. DO NOT BUY Fiberglass rolled Insulation Duh..
