1968 mercury 500 50hp, this part goes into some sort of carb.

Our local hardware store has a assortment of those plastic fitting where we purchase them that elbow is 1/8th pipe X 5/16th hose.

The plumbing department in any home improvement store will have them in both plastic and brass.

I went to 2 home depots today, neither had anything that would work... they had 90deg pieces, but all were the wrong size.

I don't see anything in the carb parts diagram that looks like that. If it is the fitting for the fuel pump inlet line http://www.marinepowerservice.com has them in stock. Search for part# 22-22995. After the search you can use the (show parts schematics for 22-22995) link to match your motor serial # to make sure it's the right part.
