I have two identical motors one year apart. both johnson ocean runner 115s.

I hooked the garden hose up to the flushing port on the recently aquired motor,
because the t stats were clogged and opened way way late. It did not seem like there was much water pressure coming out all the places water does in a lower unit....so I opened the t-stat housing at the top of the head...and there was NO water coming out( t-stat had been removed)

I went over to my other motor mounted on my boat, that has been running great and did the same thing...and when i took the t-stat out water was GUSHING out the top of the head!!!!!!!!!

sooooo where is the likely place that i am clogged up on this second motor I have????

J115SLEO and J115SLED 1995 and 1996 models

thanks

Re: where could the water passage blockage be???

Bob, when I was having issue with my 140, there was a suggestion that there may be a problem with the water diverters which are towards the top, but below the thermostat housing. I didn't have to actually pull mine out, because the problem ended up not being a problem after all. I briefly looked at the manual and it talked about pulling the head to get to them (yikes). However, there's a water tube, of course, that comes up from your lower unit, through the middle leg, into that area where the therms are. Or, it could be something as simple as debris in the telltale. I have taken a 12 guage wire, removed the plastic coating and used that to run up into that, gently of course, but it's freed one before (not on this motor, but the one she replaced anyway). My 140 is older, but I know there are a lot of similarities betwixt the two. If you need something looked up in the OEM manual, let me know.

Re: where could the water passage blockage be???

thanks for the rep[ly money, but your motor and mine are totally different.... there are no water dividers in my motor...ad the t-stats are REAL easy to get to, they are AT THE TOP of the heads!!!

thinking it over, I did still have one t-stat in the motor on my boat, while the one on the stand that i was troubleshooting had BOTH t-stats out.,...so it is likely that the absence of the second t-stat wouldnt allow the pressure to build to force water out the top of the other head....

Ill install one t-stat in the problem motor and see if i get water coming out the top of the other head, as i did on the motor on my boat!!
