Where did you buy your reman engine from?

I want to know if you had good luck after you installed your reman engine. I need a trustworthy place that has put the correct parts in with a good track record so I don't have to mess with the motor again for a while. I just need the block and internals. If you have the price it cost you that would be good too.

Re: Where did you buy your reman engine from?

I bought my reman'ed engine a few months ago from Rapido Marine in Florida. The price was fairly good, and the warranty was quite good at 15 months. Shipping was fairly prompt.

The only mix up was I ordered a replacment 5.7, and they shipped a 4.3 originally. They tried blaming us, but ended up shipping the 5.7, and paid freight to return the incorrect 4.3.

The engine has roughly 20 hours on it now, and I've had no issues.

You don't mention what engine you need, but instead of buying a reman, I would suggest buying a new short block - or long block - especially if you are looking for a small block Chevy. There are quite a few places you can buy one - and the truck engine will be the same (close enough) as the marine engine. It will even come with brass core plugs and a composite head gasket. You simply bolt your externals on and you are good to go.

Hello Sir,

I have installed many motors the last 7 years I have always used S&J engines. www.sandj.com I have never had a problem with them they come very clean they use ALL new parts. I have used rapido engines twice was not too impressed they sent me a motor that had a speedy sleeve on the rear of the crank which would indicate that they were replacing the bare minimum of parts.

One of the other techs that work with me F_C_ ed up the timing on a mercruiser and fried a 305 we called them and told them what happened and they sent us a new motor and said not to worry about paying them they appreciated our business.

I have even installed them in alot of commercial applications and they are are still running after many hours.

I can't say enough good things about this company they are also very price competitive.

I bought a 4.3 from Rapido about 2+ years ago. I ran it for about 300 hours with no problems at all, I sold the boat last April and it's still running well.

If/when another engine is needed Rapido is where I will buy it.

Whoever you decide on, make sure they specify what parts they used throughout. You should know what are the maximum overbore and other specs. It is key to know pistons, heads and cam, to make sure it is equivelent to yours. Also, check what you can (casting/part numbers) after receiving it. I have seen posts of 305 heads coming on 350s, and other "odd" configurations. Also, different from stock merc or volvo cams seem to be common.

While I have a working knowledge of sbc changes through the years, not the 4.3L. Somewhere in old threads was a link to 4.3L vintage info. From my understanding, there ary many more slight changes through the years, that you should have some idea how that may effect you, or identify before installing.

I don't know anything about the company, but out of curiosity I looked them up. Just in case anyone else wants to as well, here is the correct web address: S&J Engines

Ford 5.0 needing a home.

I purchased this ford Explorer engine as a new long block. I was going to put it into my .74 Glastron After sitting for a couple of years and with my procrastination about all the changes I had to make I decided to rebuild the old engine and take the easy way out. Actually my wife reminded me that the boat worked better in the water than the garage.

It has GT40 heads. I also rounded up a bunch of EFI parts for it. It needs a new home.
