Re: Where do dead boats go?

Thanks that'll help.
Guess I could'a searched the forum for topics on 'SALVAGE' yards.

Boy, with all the water around here you'd think there'd be at least 1 boat junkyard closer than Clearwater.

I'm specifically trying to find old motors.
Any more help would be appreciated.

plenty of places with older boats sitting with old motors in them. just drive around and look. there are 3 marinas with outlots visible off of 275 between the skyway and exit 30. there is a marine outfit just south of ulmerton on belcher. there are 3 on 66th, and many on 49th.

Some old boats become wildlife habitat areas in peoples back yards. I never really thought about it being how around where I live there are a few boat salvage yard over flowing...

Jim's place is running out of room so the overflow is starting to fill my yard .

Re: Where do dead boats go?

Predominantly, I'm trying to find dead outboard motors to rebuild & sell.
I watch craigslist but was hoping for something more.

So far my excursions have turned up empty.

Thanks for this Scott:

I'll check these out.

I don't know of one around Sebring but I'll do some research on it. Thanks.

Most dead outboards in Florida are beyond repair, having been improperly maintained, overheated, and in many cases, never flushed out and rotten from the inside.

Being from the midwest and understanding prices down here as well as from the midwest, your best bet is look at areas such as the mississippi valley, or the lake of the ozarks area of Missouri and have them shipped. Then repair and sell.

For example I picked up a complete running 9.8 electric for $200 off of craigslist in Kansas city and it cost me $50 shipping. Same motor non running down here was about $800

When I'm in FL I usually check out a few places along A1A in Stuart. There's a few used marine parts places right in one area there.

Thanks.
If I find my way down to Stuart I'll make sure to check that out.

I'll start looking at cl in other areas like the Mississippi Valley.
I'm really more interested in V6 motors but I'll just have to factor in shipping.

Thanks agin - back to fiberglass grinding . . .
