I have a 1977 Sea Ray SRV 240. I'm looking for the white canvas?? stuff between the railings show in the picture. Does anyone know where to get our what this stuff is? My boat is missing this around all the railings. Looks like there are some type of fasteners on the railings to allow the stuff to remain attached.

Thanks,

You'll have to get it custom made. Try a canvas shop. IMO, not worth it.

A piece goods/fabric store would be a good place to look for the woven canvas or a white coated fabric like Sunbrella or one of the other marine fabrics. A plain cotton/polyester woven canvas fabric will look good for a while, then may mildew and stain. Some of the newer, more high-tech marine fabrics will stay whiter and newer looking a lot longer. Good Luck!

I disagree on the custom made part. I believe you would be able to do something like this with marine grade vinyl and some button snap fasteners. This has DIY project written all over it. Should be able to pick everything u need up at a store like hancock fabrics. Heck throw some color in there to spice things up. i have no experience in upholstery but am tackling mine in my current restore. Do a lil reading , take your time, and it'll look as good as professionally done

You ever tried to sew seams on canvas? It takes special heavy-duty sewing machines, not something most DIY-ers are willing to purchase. I'd go with a canvas shop to makes sure it gets done right if you really want it.

you know... once upon a time in a land far away folks used a needle and thread with a palm guard or thimble to sew heavy stuff..... heck for this application the hem could even be glued instead of sewed...
These items could also be made from mesh..... depends on the intended purpose.

I agree and understand canvas would need a heavy duty machine.. unless the OP wants canvas i would use a different material. White canvas would be tough to keep clean in the elements. I'd use a material that could be wiped down easily like vinyl or mesh. Simple seams like what this job would need could be performed on a standard machine or hand sewn like Smoke stated. One issue with vinyl on a standard machine that I have read is that it does not like to slide through the foot easily. A simple fix is just a piece of tape to the bottom of the foot. That's the beauty of DIY tailor it to what best fits your needs

It's white vinyl on our Chris Craft. It's all original to the boat and its a 1967! Much easier to take are of.

I've made lots of boat covers and seat covers using my trusty Sears Kenmoore (about 40 years old so there are no plastic parts). Using the correct needles and thread you can easily hem two and even three layers of heavy vinyl. If you have trouble with sticking under the presser foot give the material a little shot of silcone spray. It won't hurt the fabric and it can be wiped off when done.

If your wife likes it without, that seems like an easy answer. Happy wife = Happy life I always say! ;)

Buy her a pair of earings with what you saved by not covering the railings...
